How many hours of driving lessons do you need in Florida? ›

Bring your Florida learners license. Have your parent or your guardian accompany you to sign the Affidavit for Minor to Be Licensed, which states that you have completed the required training (at least 50 hours of in-car driving lessons experience, 10 of which must be at night).

Lessons are $90 for a 1.5 hour lesson and $120 for a 2 hour lesson. An Additional Fee of 4% applies to all credit or debit cards.

Driver's License/ID Cards

Applications for driver's licenses/ID cards must be made in person at any local office offering driver licenses services. When applying for a driver license, you will be given a vision test, however you may be eligible to receive a license without taking a written or road test.

To obtain a learner's license, customers must pass the Class E Knowledge Exam. The Class E Knowledge Exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions about Florida traffic laws, safe driving practices and identifying traffic controls. To pass, a customer must answer 40 out of 50 questions correctly, or score 80 percent.

BDI 4-hour is designed for drivers who have received a Florida traffic ticket. We send the course completion certificate information to the State of Florida for you. You will need to submit your completion certificate to the Clerk of Court's office in the county where the ticket/citation was issued.

Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE)

All first-time drivers must take and pass the TLSAE course.

No. Teens will have to have professional instruction through driver ed and driver training before they are eligible for a learner's permit at 15 1/2. You may then ride along with your teen as they practice for a provisional license. Teens can't earn a California driver's license through only parental instruction.

Requirements for Teens Obtaining a Florida Driver License

The Basic Driver Improvement traffic school course takes a minimum of 4 hours to successfully complete. Expect to spend at least this amount of time completing the course. Judge-ordered driver improvement is a total of 8 hours. Advanced Driver Improvement is 12 hours.

Applicants for a first-time original Florida driver license must provide two forms of identification, proof of date of birth, proof of residential address, and proof of social security number. Non US Citizens must present proof of legal presence.
